ENOUGH IS ENOUGH: STOP TRUMPCARE

If you’ve been listening to or reading the news, you know that after weeks of total secrecy, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell released a draft of the Senate TrumpCare bill June 22nd. And what a cruel, ugly bill it is. It destroys Medicaid, it increases health costs for the middle-class families, it cuts coverage for pre-existing conditions, it eliminates funding for Planned Parenthood, among many other harmful things including a gutting crucial public health funding …and it does this all in order to green-light a massive tax cut for millionaires and billionaires. It will likely get worse once it gets to the Senate floor.
But this isn’t over yet. Senate Republicans don’t have the votes…not yet. In addition to the calls we asked you to make to the 10 wavering Republican Senators, we can act right here in Washington with our Democratic Senators. You are needed in this fight. Here’s how to fight back.
Republicans are using a special process called “reconciliation” to jam through TrumpCare. This means they only need 50 votes, instead of the usual 60, to pass it. But the trade-off is that they have to allow an unlimited number of amendments. Any Senator can file as many amendments as they want and then call them up for a vote on the Senate floor during a period called “vote-a-rama.” Democratic Senators can and should plan thousands of amendments and keep them going until Republicans agree to have public hearings on the bill. This is all happening next week.
By introducing tens of thousands of amendments, Democrats can slow down the process enough to draw necessary attention to Senate Republicans’ secret process and the disastrous impacts of their TrumpCare bill. This will also allow time for constituents to ask questions of their senators during the upcoming July recess.

Indivisible will include that in an amendment, that will be delivered to the health care staffer for your two Senators. Indivisible will ask that your Senator include it as part of the Congressional Record. You can also print your copy of the amendment and take it to your Senators’ district offices and ask that they introduce it and submit your comments during consideration of the bill. Additionally, Indivisible will deliver your amendment to Senate Minority Leader Schumer.
