- The League of Women Voters- WA also has a useful guide to assessing the candidates.
🔷 Do you want to learn first hand how secure our elections are? Please join us on Monday August 3rd at 10 am for a tour of the loop around the ballot processing floor at King County Elections Headquarters and see how the system works. Sign up to attend! Access code: elections

Weekly Actions
✊ Action 1 – Stop Federal Book Ban Bill (H.R. 7661)
From Seattle Indivisible
The federal book ban bill, H.R. 7661, has been placed on the legislative calendar. That means it has cleared committee and is now eligible to be brought before the full House for debate and a vote. If passed, the Federal Government will gain control of your local school libraries.
Once a bill reaches the calendar, House leadership can choose when to bring it to the floor, sometimes with very little notice. Also known as the “Stop the Sexualization of Children Act,” the bill seeks to link federal school funding to specific reading requirements—including a narrow, decades-old set of “classic” works, largely by white male authors, and materials from a Christian homeschool curriculum.
The bill would impose a nationwide ban on books that mention gender dysphoria or transgender topics in public schools. The true purpose of HR 7661 is not to protect children but to silence LGBTQIA+ and other marginalized voices.
The bill steals the power to choose what kids read away from parents, local communities, and well-trained educators and librarians, and gives it to politicians in Washington, D.C. (American Library Association-edited).
Book bans threaten our freedoms; they do not belong in a democracy. Please call or write your MoC!

☎ Sample Script:
Hello,
My name is [NAME], and I’m a constituent from [CITY].
As someone who feels strongly that the best education is one that sparks curiosity and the desire to learn, I urge you to vote NO on H.R. 7661, a bill that could rightfully be called “The National Book Banning Act.”
H.R. 7661 would give Congress the authority to overrule the people who are in the best position to know what books and other learning materials students should have access to: educators in partnership with parents and families, and local school boards.
In addition, the bill’s wording is broad enough to impact how subjects such as science, health, and art are taught and discussed. The legislation even uses the threat of withholding funding as a means of carrying out its goals.
Book banning has no place in our democracy. Please ensure that schools are places where every student can access books that reflect and respect a wide variety of experiences, perspectives, families, and communities. Vote NO on H.R. 7661.
Thank you.

✊ Action 2 – Keep microplastics out of our water!
Email from Food and Water Watch
Bad news from the EPA: it failed to include microplastics on its proposed monitoring list (the proposed UCMR6).
But this is not the final rule, and we still have a chance to make a difference and demand that the EPA require monitoring of microplastics in drinking water now. In 2025, 7 Governors urged the EPA to include microplastics in the UCMR 6. You can read more about How We Get Out of This Microplastics Mess.
Action: Submit a Comment to the EPA for Microplastics Monitoring
- Refer to Food & Water Watch’s excellent comment guide (and the sample comment below) to assemble your comment. It does not need to be long.
- Go to this Regulations.gov page.
- Provide your information. Type in your comment or attach a document with your comment.
- Click “Submit Comment.”
We have until August 31, 2026, to submit comments to the EPA. Let’s go!
Here is some sample comment language to get you started:
I urge you to include microplastics on the Sixth Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR 6) because my family deserves to know if their drinking water is contaminated with these tiny plastic particles. Monitoring will inform us so that we can take action to protect ourselves now and it will inform future action by the EPA to ensure that our drinking water is safe from microplastics.
Sincerely,
[Your Full Name]

- Jimothy has made national headlines, given us comic relief, and united us in protecting a misfit. We love you Jimothy!
- An appeals court rejected Trump’s bid to curb mail-in voting in 23 states. Judge Talwani sided with a coalition of states that was led by California, Massachusetts, Nevada, and Washington state. The judge said the president lacked any authority to direct DHS to compile voter eligibility lists.
- Trump’s DOJ is withdrawing subpoenas targeting NY Times reporters. The subpoenas would have compelled the reporters to testify about anonymous sources of information about the Qatari-gifted Air Force One jet. Judge Subramanian made it clear that if the government did not yank the subpoenas, he was going to quash them.
- Your anti-Flock advocacy is working! Issaquah voted on a moratorium of all automated license plate readers (ALPR’s) and Redmond voted to cancel their contract with Flock. See what other cities are doing HERE.
