For the week of June 22, 2026

🎙️June 22, 2026 Weekly Actions Audio – available for when you’re on the go

🔷 Come join us, and other Seattle area groups, for some great, coordinated bannering events on the days of the World Cup Games (June 15, 19, 24, 26, July 1, 6)! There is a particular need for all dates at the NE 10th St bridge and at the 520 bridge on July 19th. See details and sign up online.

🔷 Speaking of the World Cup, there is much to tune into off the field. As described last week, “this Great American Sleepover has been a celebration of who we are in connection with the rest of the world, which feels especially welcome as we approach the nation’s 250th birthday. Hosting the World Cup turned out to be exactly what we needed to restore our faith in ourselves and the defining promises of our country.” And our international guests (our “cousins”) are posting many humorous and heart-warming observations of our USA.

🔷 Do you know what to do if you see ICE in your community? Indivisible Eastside is co-sponsoring an in-person Constitutional Observer Training on Wed June 24 from 7 to 8:30 pm in Bellevue. You will learn key constitutional rights for observation and documentation, how to report, personal safety, and more. Register for more details and location. Bring a friend or a group!

Weekly Actions

✊ Action 1 – Speak out against the sweeping regulatory change that threatens American science

From Stand Up for Science and 5calls

Who do you want approving federal research grants? If your first thought isn’t federal appointees, know that Russell Vought of Project 2025 is trying to take over American science and all federally funded research. A new Office of Management and Budget (OMB) proposed rule, Regulation for Federal Financial Assistance, if implemented, will:

  1. Put political appointees in charge of what research is funded, without input from any peer review.
  2. Require grant funding to align with “administration policies and priorities.”
  3. Require pre-approval from the government before researchers can share their findings.
  4. Allow active grants to be terminated at any time, for any reason.

You can help stop this! There is a public comment period open until July 13th. A flood of public comment can turn the tide and help with any future lawsuits (there will be lawsuits). Stand up for Science! Is a great group fighting back and has made commenting easy. You don’t need a science background. Just provide a unique comment saying you don’t approve of the new rules!

Action1A: Comment on the rule, either by using this comment form or by commenting directly on the Federal Register website (click Submit a Public Comment and fill out the page).

Sample comment (it can be this simple):

Local universities receive federal funding for oncology research. I do NOT want an appointee with no training in medicine or a background in oncology determining what research should be funded.

I oppose having political appointees and not experts decide which grants are funded. Thank you.

Hi, my name is [NAME], and I’m a constituent from [CITY].

I’m calling to urge you to oppose OMB’s Proposed Federal Financial Assistance Rule (OMB-2026-0034) and block its implementation. The scientific process works because it is objective, and allowing politics to restrict scientific progress hurts everyone.

Thank you.

✊ Action 2 – Call out rainbow-washing companies

From Pay Back PRIDE

Sponsoring Pride parades and celebrations has become an established corporate P.R. strategy, but in many cases, these sponsoring companies are also funding organizations and candidates actively working to strip the LGBTQ+ community of its rights and dignity.

Pay Back PRIDE has identified dozens of companies that have given to PACs – such as the Republican State Leadership Committee, Republican Attorneys General Association, and Republican Governors Association – since Trump returned to office, and that are also sponsoring Pride parades this year. There are companies with local presence, such as Microsoft, Amazon, Google, T-Mobile, and Starbucks, plus many others.  As Pay Back PRIDE states, “performative allyship sucks —that’s why this year, we’re demanding that corporations put their money where their mouths are.” They have created a web page that makes it easy to counter the companies’ rosy PR with the real story.

Action: Visit paybackpride.org, and scroll down to find companies and brands along with the Republican PACs they support and the Pride events they are sponsoring. The email link for each company provides an individualized message to leadership, encouraging them to match their anti-LGBTQ+ donations with contributions to support struggling queer youth. Take it a step further and comment on their social media pages, too. Let the world know that solidarity is not for sale.
